We speak to the Paediatric Dentistry Society
We joined Professor Rajat Gupta to present on PANS and PANDAS at the British Paediatric Dentistry Society
Paediatric dental patients with PANS or PANDAS require specific, informed support. We want to make sure all dental professionals understand the conditions, recognise the symptoms and feel comfortable supporting patients and their families.
The British Society of Paediatric Dentistry (BSPD) is the national society dedicated to improving the oral health of children and young adults. The BSPD Summer Study Day was the perfect place for us to reach members of the dental profession.
PANS PANDAS UK provided information about the conditions and their effect on a young person. Professor Rajat Gupta spoke about how the conditions can affect a young patient’s presentation and restrict their ability to cooperate with dental treatment. Together, we provided practical advice for working with a young PANS or PANDAS patient, ensuring that anyone affected by the conditions can access informed dental healthcare.
“It was a pleasure to join Professor Rajat Gupta to raise awareness of PANS and PANDAS and to share information with paediatric dentists about condition-specific considerations for treatment and support. Complex conditions like these require a multidisciplinary team approach and we can’t thank organisers Ajit Tanday and Helen Sanders enough for their interest and warm welcome,”

How could PANS or PANDAS affect a child during their visit to the dentist?
