PANS PANDAS UK

Perspectives on PANS and PANDAS at RCPCH 2025

R-L Professor Rajat Gupta, Vicky Burford, Professor Ming Lim and Doctor Ashley Liew

The Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health Annual Conference is an important date in the calendar for established and aspiring paediatricians from across the UK and beyond. This year’s conference, held at the SEC in Glasgow, was no exception with more than 2,000 delegates from across 40 countries in attendance.

With this in mind, we were delighted to have been selected to present a workshop on PANS and PANDAS at the conference. Entitled ‘Perspectives on PANS and PANDAS’, this workshop saw clinical and patient experts come together to talk about the conditions, their impacts and the work underway towards improved standards of care for those affected.

It addressed the diagnostic and treatment challenges, and the opportunities for changing healthcare practices with innovative, interdisciplinary working models.

We are so grateful to paediatric neurologists Professor Rajat Gupta and Professor Ming Lim and paediatric neuropsychiatrist Doctor Ashley Liew, who co-presented alongside PANS PANDAS UK chairperson Vicky Burford. Their insights and expertise were matched only by those of the parents and young people who participated in our ‘experts by experience’ video, which captivated the audience.

The workshop was exceptionally well attended and well received, sparking many interesting conversations in the following days and bringing many visitors to the PANS PANDAS UK exhibition stand, eager to learn more.

Overall, RCPCH 2025 was a great event for PANS PANDAS UK to connect with the healthcare professionals and organisations in a position to support children and young people with the conditions. We look forward to exhibiting at our next health event, the Royal College of General Practitioners Conference, where we can continue to raise awareness and improve the lives of everyone affected by PANS and PANDAS.
