PANS and PANDAS: Emotionally Based School Avoidance

This guide aims to help
schools and professionals understand how the onset of PANS or PANDAS can quickly lead to attendance difficulties that can be misinterpreted as Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA).

This guide is aimed at:

  • Schools, for example teachers, SENCO’s, education welfare
  • officers, pastoral, and mental health leads
  • Wider education professionals for example educational
  • psychologists, inclusion teams, hospital education,
  • alternative provision settings
  • School Nursing Teams
  • Allied professionals including GP’s, paediatricians, CAMHS
