PANS PANDAS UK training sessions for teachers and school staff have been informed by the experiences and insights of teachers, SENCOs, children and young people, and their parents and carers.

Each session is enriched with lived experience voices, help you to build awareness and understanding, and increase your confidence when working with a child or young person with PANS and PANDAS.

How can the conditions impact education?

Both PANS and PANDAS can have a devastating impact on a child or young person’s education, due to both their sudden onset and the wide range of areas they can affect. Unlike other conditions that show gradual signs, these conditions can cause abrupt and severe unexpected learning difficulties.

– testimony from a training attendee

PANS and PANDAS diagnoses are on the rise thanks to recent progress in the medical field. Multi-disciplinary professionals are currently working nationally to advance clinical care, and to raise awareness across the board of education, social care and health professionals. Royal College of Paediatric and Child Health (RCPCH) endorsed UK clinical guidelines and guidance for Local Authorities in England are expected within the next six to 12 months.

Our training sessions will help educational professionals to:

  • understand what the conditions are and how they can present in school
  • recognise how symptoms affect learning, behaviour, wellbeing and attendance
  • strengthen confidence in noticing and communicating change
  • explore practical, needs‑led approaches within existing frameworks
  • evaluate which approaches help children and families
  • develop practical resources to take away.

In line with our charity ethos, our resource library, website and training is designed to be accessible. If you have any specific accessibility requirements, please email schools@panspandasuk.org

Can I ask about the medical needs of my student?

Throughout the training, we will provide advice and guidance about managing the barriers to education that PANS and PANDAS can cause. Unfortunately, we are unable to discuss individual students medical needs. Our trainers are not medically trained and can therefore not give medical advice regarding children and young people.
